How to Make a Face Mask
What you will need
– 100% cotton, higher thread count fabric, pillowcase or sheet (all
fabrics need to be preshrunk in a hot wash) – 1/8” or 1⁄4” flat elastic – If possible, please use two different fabrics for each mask (this will
help differentiate the outside and inside of the mask).
– Cut 2 pieces of elastic 7” long – Cut 2 pieces of fabric 8.5” X 5.75” (M) or 9.5” X 6.25” (L) – Put right sides of fabric together – Starting at the center of the bottom edge, with a 1⁄4” seam, sew to near the first corner, stop. Insert one elastic between the fabric pieces, with its edge out into the corner of the fabric at a 45deg angle. Back stitch to secure, turn. – Sew to the next corner, stop and repeat with the other end of the
same elastic – Sew around mask, repeating the elastic attachment at the other
side, leave an opening on the bottom edge. – Turn inside out – Pin 3 tucks on each side of the mask, making sure they run in the same direction (sides should measure about 3” when tucked) – Sew around the edge of the mask twice. – Finished product should measure 8” X 5.25”(M) and 9” X 5.75”(L),
or about 13” (M) and 14”(L) to ends of elastic loops without stretch.
