How to Make Exercise Stick

July 31, 2025NRG 4 Life FitnessUncategorized
  1. Find Activities You Enjoy:
  • Variety is key:

Explore different types of exercise to prevent boredom and find what truly motivates you.

  • Make it social:

Join a fitness class, workout with a friend, or find a team sport to add a social element and accountability.

  • Make it fun:

Try less traditional activities like dancing, hiking, or even active video games.

  1. Set Realistic Goals:
  • Start small:

Don’t try to do too much too soon. Begin with shorter workouts and gradually increase the intensity and duration as you get fitter.

  • Focus on progress, not perfection:

Celebrate small wins and acknowledge your achievements, no matter how minor.

  • Don’t be afraid to adjust:

If a particular goal isn’t working, be flexible and adjust your expectations.

  1. Build a Routine:
  • Schedule it: Treat exercise like an important appointment and schedule it into your day.
  • Create triggers: Use cues like time of day or a specific location to remind yourself to exercise.
  • Be consistent: Even if you miss a workout, get back on track as soon as possible.
  1. Stay Accountable:
  • Find a workout buddy: Having someone to exercise with can provide motivation and support.
  • Track your progress: Monitor your workouts and notice the positive changes you’re experiencing.
  • Reward yourself: Celebrate your successes with non-food rewards that align with your fitness goals.
  1. Overcoming Barriers:
  • Don’t get discouraged by setbacks:

Everyone misses workouts occasionally. Don’t let a few missed sessions derail your entire plan.

  • Break it down:

If a full workout feels daunting, break it into smaller chunks throughout the day.

  • Be kind to yourself:

Remember that consistency is more important than perfection. Don’t let the “all-or-nothing” mindset prevent you from exercising.
